Empowering a Small Business to Generate Organic Business Growth

SEO and content development training for interior designer - SME

This talented interior designer had a natural flair for style, texture and creating beautiful spaces for both work and relaxation. A skilled seamstress too, her services extended to creating bespoke soft furnishings designed to add the perfect finishing touch to any room.

The Problem: A Beautiful Website That Wasn't Being Found

As a new business owner, she had invested in the development of a beautiful new website showcasing her interior design services, bespoke soft furnishings and previous work.

There was just one rather important problem: potential customers weren't finding it.

The website had no organic search visibility and, as a result, wasn't generating enquiries for her services.

Like many small businesses in their early stages, budgets were tight. Paying an agency to continually optimise and manage the website wasn't a realistic long-term solution. Instead, she wanted to understand how to improve the website herself, giving her greater control over her marketing as the business developed.

The Solution: Developing Her Own SEO and Content Marketing Skills

I began by reviewing the website and working with her to look more closely at the individual services she offered and, importantly, how potential customers might actually search for them online.

Although positioning herself as an interior designer was important, our research identified additional, highly relevant search terms with stronger potential to attract customers actively looking for the specific services she provided.

I then trained her in keyword research and practical on-page SEO, including how to optimise individual service pages and incorporate local, geo-targeted search terms to reach potential customers within her service area.

Just as importantly, these were skills she could continue to use herself. As the business grew and new projects were completed, she could create and optimise fresh content to showcase her work, target new search opportunities and steadily build the website's organic visibility.

The Result: First Online Customer Secured Within Three Weeks

Within just three weeks of completing the training, she had put her new skills into practice and optimised the website herself.

Then came the result we had been hoping for: her first website-generated enquiry.

Better still, the enquiry converted into a paying customer.

For a new small business, it was an important early win, but the longer-term value went beyond one new client. She now had the knowledge and confidence to continue improving her website and developing its organic visibility herself, without becoming dependent on the ongoing cost of an external agency.

And yes, we were both rather delighted!
